GPlus 101-02 Intro to G+ UI & Profile Set Up

On this episode of Google +101 we covered the basic user interface along with how to set up your profile.

Setting up a good profile is a sure way to get people to follow you. Look at it this way, when you are searching for people to follow generally the first thing you do is have a look at their profile. Well that's exactly what people following you or considering following you are going to do on your profile. Make sure you add a quality picture and spend a little bit of time describing exactly who you are and what you do online.

This episode will walk you through that process and show you how to create links to your other social networks along with websites the you may be hosting or contributing to.

We also briefly cover the basic privacy controls, this way you can choose who sees what information about you. We will get deeper into this as the tutorials go on, today we just take a basic look at it.

We also go over the G+ user interface. Since episode one (of G+101) there has been quite of few changes to the Google plus UI. So we spend a little time catching up on all of the new features things like; the new send a message tab, live chat, YouTube integration and the ability to +1 pictures.

New GooglePlus YouTube Sliding Search Box

Something I just noticed today when i fired up Google Plus was this new YouTube Search box.

You will notice the little YouTube Icon on the right side of your stream. Once you hover over it you get this slide out antimation. Presenting you with a search box.

I did a few searches to find that it worked quite well you will get a mini floating YouTube player with several videos based on your search.

Over all not a bad experience. However, it was a bit "clunky".  I will play with it more later today.

Google Adds Direct Message Type Service to Google+

Google continues to improve on Google+. If you ever tried to send a Direct Message on G+ you had to jump thru a few hoop. Not anymore.

Just yesterday Google made a change to the social networking site that made it easier to send individual users a direct message. Users need to click on the name of the user or organization that they want to contact directly. This opens the user profile on Google+. The new button send a message has been placed directly beneath the profile picture of the user.

This Week GooglePlusToday is Back with special guest Kelly Spore from KellysWorld.net. We cover some of the new changes to Google+ including the Whats Hot Category, Photo Editing and Picasa.

Also rumors have it that G+ is considering allowing Kids in to the service. I have noted several polls on the Stream whether Google should allow 13 to 18 year olds to join in G+.

We are back after two weeks off. We have worked out the schedule to release a new show each week. Due to my day job it is very difficult to set a consistent release day. We will be making every attempt to release the new shows our Tuesday's if I happen to be working a 24 hour shift I will release it on Wednesday.
